2022 Design Trends

When it comes to home design, 2022 has a lot in store! If you’re considering making design changes to your home this year, this one is for you – keep on reading!

Two-Toned Palettes

Personally, I love the look of two-toned kitchens and bathrooms. This design scheme allows for extra definition and interest without overcomplicating spaces. As stated by Homes & Gardens, “most paint charts are arranged in families of colours, making it easy to find two shades that work together or contrast. Remember that dark colors take up more space visually. Use the darker shade below eyeline, and a lighter shade that’s closer to the wall colour above; it will help break up expanses of cabinetry and storage and feel calmer and less blocky than a high-contrast scheme. Try not to be too clever when choosing paint colours. Instead, research the colour wheel and take inspiration from decorative items you intend to include, such as art or upholstery, and see the paint as a backdrop, rather than the main event.”

Reimagined Classics

Rather than getting rid of old furniture, 2022 is all about reimagining these pieces and breathing new life to them. For example, if you have an old dresser that you’re looking to get rid of, consider a DIY project in which you sand & repaint the pieces, update the legs (gold legs are very in-style), and update the doors. A friend of mine recently turned an old unused dresser into a beautiful storage unit. With a bit of sanding, fresh green paint, and new DIY doors with a gorgeous mesh under the glass, it truly does look like a classic item in her home!

Rugs are in!

This year is said to be the year of the rug. As Homes & Gardens explains, “celebrated design names are lining up to put their mark on the floor as we enter what is to be the year of the rug. Bringing warmth and comfort underfoot, a statement rug will complete your decorating scheme in style.” After weeks of contemplating, I finally place my rug purchase via Ruggable. I can’t say enough about how amazing the design and quality of these rugs are. I chose the Kamran Coral Persian Rug which has tints of blue & deep coral, and the best part – it’s machine washable!! For those of you with pets or children, I think these rugs are an absolute must. Click here to take a look at their collection.
