70’s Aesthetic

As Nick Drewe – trend expert – explains, “from boho to disco, ’70s interiors are having a moment. The trend is all about incorporating earthy tones like hunter green, mustard yellow and blues, with materials like rattan and bamboo—in fact, searches for rattan have shot up by 77 percent on Pinterest.” While doing my weekly Pinterest dive earlier today, I can definitely agree the rattan / bamboo look is absolutely everywhere and trending even more so now that we’re headed towards a warmer toned season.

Green Envy

Whether you’re thinking accents, kitchen cabinets, backsplash, feature walls, or furniture, green has made a major comeback and is a trend we should expect to see steadily throughout fall 2022. Personally, I am in love with the look of a green accent wall – this is something I hope to design out in my office space!

Plate Walls

Another old-but-new trend that we should expect to see this upcoming season is decorative plate walls in kitchens and pantries. As Sydney Meister explains, “from Gwyneth Paltrow’s farmhouse-style kitchen wall to Kris Jenner’s dish room, it seems like dressing the walls with decorative plates is all the rage in 2022.” As DIY-guru Emily Henderson further explains, “one very fun thing about this trend is that the possibilities are endless when it comes to placement and configurations. We’re seeing vintage, hand-painted platters mixed with more modern introductions (see: the Tema E Variazioni collection from Fornasetti). It really toes the line between modern and cozy traditional.” A friend of mine recently did a full kitchen renovation and has installed shelving to showcase fun and colourful plate-ware and I have to say – it can be done in the most gorgeous, minimal, yet inviting way. I am a huge fan!

Natural Wood

We’ve been seeing natural wood pop up more and more throughout the year. This is something we can expect to see much more of throughout the fall. As Jane At Home explains, “the natural beauty of wood creates a welcoming and calming environment for fall. And with the growing desire for lighter, airier spaces, wood adds a much-needed grounding effect.” Moreover, lighter, warmer wood tones are making a comeback, particularly in kitchen and bathroom cabinetry. When I take a look through Pinterest for inspiration, I’m seeing a ton of two toned cabinetry – many of these incorporating light wood tones.

Everything from woven baskets in all shapes and sizes, woven pendant lights, natural fiber rugs, and cane and rattan furniture is also set to have a major comeback this fall. Personally, I love this look and have tried to implement it throughout my home. With the warmth of fall coming, I’m certain I’ll be adding a few more woven baskets and pendant lights wherever I can!
