Powder rooms are typically a small space that require thinking outside the box when it comes to revamping. Some home owners may opt to have this space really stand out, while others may choose to keep it cohesive with the rest of their home. Personally, I plan to sell at some point and am leaning towards keeping my powder room design in line with the rest of my home which has recently been updated.

By keeping the overall design pattern neutral, the chances of a future buyer envisioning the space as their own is higher. If you however are not planning on selling anytime soon, don’t hesitate to get funky with this space! I recommend exploring as much as you can on Pinterest first to get a solid idea of what you want the room to look like – everything from paint colours to cabinets, sinks, lighting, faucets, tile, and so on. Once you’ve pinpointed your style, take a day to view beautiful bathrooms in person. As HGTV explains, “decorator show houses, kitchen and bath showrooms, and plumbing showrooms provide places to see styles in 3-D which can be extremely beneficial.” Make sure to also keep in mind that despite the rooms small size, many mechanicals must be included. There may be large drain lines to get in and water supply lines, ventilation, possibly a window, and some very specific products that aren’t really flexible in size such as a toilet and sink. When you narrow down the exact changes you’d like to make, as well as what technical specs to accommodate, it’s time for the makeover! Now that the major aspects of your DIY renovation are completed such as paint, tiling, sink / toilet swaps, tiling, and so on, it’s time to get accessorizing. Add art to walls, arrange small vignettes on the countertops, and provide little luxuries like finely milled soaps and rich lotion for guests to use. Keep in mind – powder rooms aren’t really built to have a ton of storage space, therefore anything you or your guests will regularly need should be put out in plain sight. Has this gotten you thinking more about your powder room renovation? Wishing you a successful DIY project!
