Spring Cleaning – Outdoor Edition

With Spring comes warmer temperatures that allow us to lounge outdoors and enjoy the fresh crisp air – a well deserved treat after the winter we’ve had! If you’re ready to begin enjoying your outdoor spaces, you’ll need to work on outdoor clean up. Keep reading to find a few helpful tips when it comes to getting things in order for the warmer season ahead.

Let’s get started by removing any winter debris from your gardens, lawns, or patios. Sweep away any leaves that may have fallen over the winter and do any deseeding necessary. Next, get to work on mowing the lawn if you have a front or back yards, and get those pressure washers out in order to make those patios sparkly clean. This week I spent about three hours pressure washing our outdoor spaces and wow does it make a difference!

While you’re pressure washing, don’t forget about getting those windows or sliding doors cleaned off as well. If you have a driveway, make sure to really detail wash this space also – first impressions are everything! If you have a lot of dirt on the ground make sure to use a broom to sweep up as much of it as possible before pressure washing – the last thing we need is to spread debris. Should you have a shop vac in your garage, these come in very handy for cleaning up smaller pieces of debris.

Once your surface clean up is completed, it’s time to get to your outdoor furniture set up. Give those seat cushions a good scrub down with mild soapy water. Wipe down all furniture frames and check for rust and damage. Make sure to complete any repairs before the furniture starts getting heavily used. Personally I took all of my outdoor furniture coverings off and put them through the washer and dryer. Having the option to unzip and wash is extremely helpful, but a cloth with warm soapy water works very well also if you don’t have this option.

Next up, set your outdoor furniture up to your liking, and voila – you are officially spring ready!
