WEEKEND SNOWSHOE

With the snowy weather coming back in full swing, this weekend is looking prosperous for all outdoor activities – including my favourite, snowshoeing. Keep reading to learn which trails I recommend exploring!

Before we dive in, make sure you’re equipped for the cold weather. Here’s what you’ll be needing for a successful snowshoeing trip:

  • Snowshoes that are right for your weight, terrain, and snow conditions
  • Warm, waterproof boots
  • Dress in layers with clothing that can handle cold, wet conditions

Now, let’s get started on the trails around town! Grouse Mountain is one of the easiest places to go snowshoeing. You simply ride the gondola to the top, then head out on the trails. You can tour their groomed beginner and intermediate snowshoe trails of the Blue Grouse Loop, or head for Dam Mountain – a pristine loop of three main trails that circle Dam Mountain and Thunderbird Ridge. You can find the trails easily with clearly marked signs from the top of Grouse Mountain.

Another one of my favourite snowshoe traits is at Mount Seymour. Mount Seymour offers a variety of trails exclusively for snowshoers providing a place of beauty and solitude. Enjoy the scenic lakes, old-growth forests, and undulating trails on your own or with an experienced guide on one of their popular snowshoe tours. Their trails close at 4pm, unless otherwise specified when purchasing. Click here for more information and make sure to explore their website a bit further to learn about their guided tours!

If you happen to be closer to West Vancouver, Cypress Mountain is a great option to explore – specifically for those of you who are experiences snowshoers. Cypress has 11 km of safe, inbounds, self-guided snowshoe trails that run through the subalpine meadows and snowy mountain forests of Hollyburn Ridge. Please note snowshoe rentals are not permitted to leave their Nordic Area, snowshoes are required on all Cypress snowshoe trails, and spikes and crampons are not permitted on any of their trails.

Happen to be going up to Squamish for the weekend? Click here to find an assortment of trails you can explore while enjoying the snowy city!

Wishing you a safe and adventurous weekend!
