Investing in the curb appeal of your home can bring a higher return on investment (ROI) than more expensive outdoor features, according to a recent report from the National Association of Realtors and the National Association of Landscape Professionals. Homeowners who invest in standard lawn care service, such as seeding and mowing their lawn, generally see a 217% ROI, while landscape maintenance, such as keeping the shrubs trimmed and the flowers blooming, netted home sellers about a 104% ROI. Upgrading overall landscaping got them about a 100% ROI. Outdoor features like in-ground pools, fire features, and landscape lighting resulted in a lower ROI, while outdoor kitchens, tree care, and irrigation systems were found to bring the least enjoyment to homeowners. During the COVID-19 pandemic, outdoor space was particularly valuable to homeowners who invested heavily in turning them into outside extensions of their homes.
