Boho Chic Home Design

Calling all Boho enthusiasts! Are you in need of some inspiration to give your home a Bohemian makeover? The best part about Bohemian style is that all rules go out the window and it is encouraged to let your personality shine through!

As described by The Spruce, “Boho chic home decor combines items that are relaxed, bold, and unusual. The look typically involves an eclectic mix of natural elements and many colours, patterns, and textures.” Tap into your inner Bohemian and read on for some ideas of how to add some Bohemian flair to your home!

Mix Colours and Patterns

I love that the Boho Chic aesthetic bends traditional design rules and can let us embrace our unique creativity when it comes to decorating. The Spruce explains, “bright colours and lots of patterns such as florals and paisleys mixed with ethnic patterns like tribal prints and geometric patterns are a hallmark of boho chic style.” If the brighter colours aren’t for you, darker, richer hues evoke an instant sense of luxury. Get creative with this and remember, there are no rules!

Combine Layers and Textures

As expressed by Decorilla, “unlike the minimalist style, a boho room is unapologetic in both mixing finishes and layering elements of decor like textiles, art, and accents.” I think for those of you wanting to try out this design style, experimenting with mismatched furniture, rustic elements, rugs, cushions, and throws would be a great starting point!

Opt for Handmade and Natural Pieces

When it comes to adding even more dimension, think of adding natural elements such as macrame, woven baskets, and paintings. Etsy is a great place to find unique, handmade decor items. I’ve found so many great pieces in the past just by scrolling through different Etsy accounts!

Add Lush Botanicals

Another great way to achieve this style is to add an assortment of refreshing plants to your home! Feel free to mix and match different plant types varying in texture and shape. Not only will plants add a visual appeal to your home, but they also have the added benefit of purifying the air. Personally, I love adding an assortment of plants to my office space. I find it not only adds an element of design, but also just brings life to the room.

Display Antique Treasures and Storytelling Items

Collect and display vintage items reminiscent of the free spirit culture of the 1960s and ’70s. You can find some amazing antique treasures at local thrift stores or antique shops. In the words of Decorilla,“vintage or gently worn second-hand pieces offer a soulful element to bohemian design.” Similarly, art, books, and sculptures can add storytelling and cultural value making a space uniquely yours.

I would love to hear your thoughts on these Boho Chic decor ideas! Is this design style something you will be trying to achieve this year?
