Wallpaper Design

This year, we’ve seen a significant increase in the use of wallpaper within home design. As designers are projecting, this trend is only going to get bigger throughout 2023. If you’ve been wondering how to incorporate wallpaper in a stylish and unique way within your home, this one is for you!

Whatever your taste, there are wallpaper ideas for everyone, from traditional florals and trompe l’oeil, to contemporary geometric and tropical patterns or animal motifs and architectural designs. As Homes & Gardens explains, “you can also now embellish corks, grass-cloths and silks with pretty much any design. The usage is also bolder and braver. If you have the confidence, there are endless possibilities.”

Bright & Exciting

Take your living room for example. While traditionally focal points have been created with furniture, a trending design technique is utilizing walls to bring diversity and intrigue into the room – even if its a small nook in your living room space and not the entire focal walls.

Personally, I love this design as the wallpaper is used in a minimal way, while making maximum impact in the room and livening up the space in an elegant way.

Dark & Dramatic

Dark colours used to be avoided, as often this would be misinterpreted as making a room seem quite gloomy. However, as Homes & Gardens explains, “with an eclectic use of space and smart living room lighting ideas like in the space shown below, deeper royal blues and luxurious emerald greens are making a desired comeback.”

Simple & Refreshing

Another great space to incorporate wallpaper is your ensuite or powder room. In this bathroom from interior designer Cathie Hong of Cathie Hong Interiors, understated wallpaper in a graphic soft pink and white pattern adds a hint of texture and interest without overwhelming the small space.

I would love to do something similar to this design for my bathroom to bring a bit of life and warmth to the space. Bathrooms are often areas we overlook, but with a bit of simple design the look can be completely transformed.

For those of you working with small bathrooms, I’d highly recommend exploring this design below. As The Spruce notes, blogger Ursula Carmona of Home Made by Carmona chose a soft large scale black and white floral wallpaper for the top half of this guest bathroom that is visible from the hallway to make the room a feature rather than an end-of-the-hall eyesore. It’s incredible to see how something so simple can make such a vast difference!

Last but not least, let’s move onto how you can incorporate wallpaper to your bedrooms – whether this is a guest room, or your primary.

When it comes to guest rooms, it’s easy to get a bit more creative. In the guest room of this California home designed by Ken Fulk, floral wallpaper on a black background infuses the room with a surprisingly serene vibe. I really enjoy this bold yet warming look!
